The Gift: A Tribute to the Music of Ian Tyson
Get ready for a superb music performance season opener at the Athabasca Hall when Peace Players presents “The Gift: A Tribute to the Music of Ian Tyson”. Ian Tyson is one of the most influential and definitive western music artists in North America. From the major folk era of the 1960’s to the contemporary folk and country music scene, Tyson has written and performed some of the most descriptive, melodic and poetic songs of prairie and rural life ever composed. His influence on the development of Canadian folk and country music is significant. The Gift began as a CD tribute project produced by Edmonton’s Peter North and featured such musical luminaries as Blue Rodeo, Tom Russell, Jennifer Warnes and Corb Lund, to name a few. From the recording project, The Gift was transformed into a stage show, originally featuring some of the musical artists from the CD and was very well received on a subsequent tour of Alberta. The version of The Gift gracing the Athabasca Hall features Stewart McDougall and a host of Alberta musicians recreating that original show. Come to the show and relax while listening to songs that will at once be familiar to most and are guaranteed to bring warmth and enjoyment as you find yourself singing along.
Tickets are on sale for $25 at Style Ryte Cleaners in Peace River (780-624-1713) or are available at the door. To read various reviews of The Gift, go to Google.com and search “The Gift: A Tribute to Ian Tyson”.
